House to my self for a few days, so oppurtunity to play... this evening I had a go and coming up with something, and this is what I ended up with.- Large plastic bag/sheet
- Bin/bucket
- Something tall for it to sit on
- Something like a book for it to balance on
- String
- Rope and / or Ducttape
- Goggles, blindfold, handcuffs etc... all good additions!
- About 20 minutes or less if your organised
The bag was setup between a wall and the bed, so I was sitting within a gap just wide enough for me to lie down.
The end of the bag that was to remain open was taped up to the wall/bed, so it would stay open. If this collapsed, water could go everywhere except within the bag, and lack of air would also be a key problem.
I used a plastic waste paper bin to hold the water.
Test this mechanism first - without water. Then check for balance with water.
When ready to begin, sit the bin flat - you might knock it otherwise during the setup.
I sat within the plastic bag, tied my lower legs to upper legs with some rope.
I then checked I could lie down and be in the right position.
Before settling in, I put on some goggles and as I was concerned the bin might drop - a cycle helmet - well, probably won't help - but it's more stuff to get strapped into! :-)
I then taped the lower part of the bag tightly around my legs upto my waste. I couldn't go any further on my own.
Lieing in position I then started to position the bin - I couldn't. So I had to sit up and it was tricky to move around with my legs secure and moving the plastic bag - but I managed it eventually.
The string was now in use to hold it from falling - so very carefully lay back down in place.
I put the string in my mouth - using my teeth to hold it.
Now I put my hands behind my back. I'd love to have secured them really, but again - difficult to do on your own, and perhaps risky in this setup (plastic bags, water, heavy objects falling!).
Now it was all working. If I let the string slip, tried to talk, yawn, etc... I'd get wet, and then end up lieing in a puddle of water and then having to untape/untie my way out.
It worked - pretty much as planned.
I got a few splashes at first, but then I couldn't hold the string any longer - and I got alot more water than I expected (even though I put it in!). It was also much much much colder than I expected!!
It was a stragely good feeling when it hit my face.
The bin stayed up dangling securely - which was good.
I was then sat in a puddle of very wet cold water. I was wearing a t-shirt, which probably kept it slightly warmer at that point (that changed once I got out and started moving around/getting changed)
But, one problem - theres nothing to stop me jumping out fairly quickly. I can situp right away, and then it's not difficult to untape/untie and then hop out of the plastic bag away from the cold water.
I'd also wear a blindfold instead of goggles (or perhaps over the goggles)... so you don't really know whats happening. I closed my eyes when I knew I was releasing it - but it's not the same - I knew what was going to happen and had control!
Still, it was a good experience and I've had a real buzz ever since.
It would be great to repeat if there was someone else to help make it a big more secure and not really know whats coming.
I think a mouthpiece/gag would be good too to hold the string. If secured theres no way you'd be able to release the string and then stop the bin tipping in time - especially if arms are secured behind back and the plastic taped higher up the body.
More water / colder water / multiple times?
Ideally you'd tape all the way up, so theres just a hole for the water to fall through (and plenty of air to breath obviously).
Easy to do. I did it with stuff found around the house.
And assuming you don't have any leaks - it's easy to cleanup.
I was quite pleased the way this one worked out. Will I do it again? Not sure... part of me wants to do it again, right now! The other part of me remembers how cold it was at the end! - it needs a nice young lady adding to the equation to talk me into it, and then ensuring I'm not in a position to change my mind :-)
